How does criss angel perform his tricks?

I'm watching some episodes from mind freak and some of of his tricks/stunts are amazing I know they are supposed to be just an "illusion" but how do illusions work?? I mean 1 min somethins there then 5 sec later it disappears I don't get it how do illusions work and how are they created??
