If i eat alot of protein and carbs, will running ever burn it?

I workout my upper body and abs alot. Im motivated to get big arms and abs. I am 5"10' 135 lbs 12% body fat. I do cross country and one of my friends was telling me that you burn muscle when you run. Idid alot of research and it said aftrr u r out of protein/carbs ur body uses muscle as energy. How can this be prevented? I run 8-13 miles a day.
