Thick long hair help?

I have really thick long brown hair. It goes down to about the middle of my back. I have really long layers and angles. Whenever it dries, it gets frizzy and puffy. I really want to be able to wear it down without doing anything to it but that most likely wont happen so im content with being able to braid it and when it dries, take out the braid and have waves. What can I do to prevent the puffiness and my hair getting frizzy? THANKS
