How effective are inanimate screensavers?

What kind of monitor are you using? An old CRT? An LCD with a CCFL Backlight? LED Side lit or Back lit? Some of the newer ones don't really need screen savers because they don't burn in, and you're better off letting the monitor go to sleep to preserve the life of the back light.
