Did the Greeks do this to this to themselves?

It seems to me that corruption rand wild in Greece and that they are to blame for their own failed economy. Now the little man has to pay for the mistakes of those who were in a position to prevent it (just like the mortgage crisis in the US). Corruption and greed is destroying the world and we are all just sitting by and watching it happen again and again. When will it stop?
